For the Politically Minded

I limit the amount of politicizing I do on Lifehelps.

When I am in the mood for speaking out on this complex, often perplexing and frustrating subject, I put a post on

http://patriotsvoiceblog.wordpress.com

Not to worry, my views are eclectic rather than very far left or right, although it is fair to warn you that I am not a fan of the current administration at all.

Today’s post is my evaluation of a memorandum from the White House I found on

http://www.cnn.com

touting Mr. Trump’s accomplishments in his first 100 days as President.

Feel free to go over and check it out.

Community

o-talking-to-kids-about-race-facebookIf you read through my blogs, it might become evident that I have a passion for building community.  Strong towns and neighborhoods are crucial for our well being, especially now, when prejudice, threat of deportation and the possibility of having vital services cut loom so darkly.  That has inspired the following:

Coming together as citizens;
Overcoming differences and fear;
Making friends out of strangers
Moves us to be more clear:
Unity builds strength and safety;
No one can bully us then.
It truly is impossible
To turn against the one
You have come to know and love as a friend.

The Tyranny Has Begun – Executive Orders That Close US Borders and Oppress Her People

While people go about their daily lives, working, eating supper and doing chores, and evil is set in place.

Oh, there’s plenty of distraction:  The squabble about illegal voters and numbers is back; Mr. Trump doesn’t believe reports…

Meanwhile, immigrants, refugees and the people who help them are about to be targetted; Social Security and Medicaid are in immediate trouble; federal agencies are ordered not to talk to the public.
There is more bad news:
*FHA insurance premium cuts for home buyers have been frozen
*The pipeline in North Dakota is moving forward by way of Presidential executive order – Let’s completely disregard Native Americans, environment and any progress that has been made!
*Mr. Trump has indicated his intentions to significantly reduce environmental regulations in the production of cars

I’m not sure which of these troubles me most.  Perhaps the communications lockdown of federal agencies:  This sets the stage for policies and actions to be taken without public knowledge.  Transparency has been a long-time value in the United States.  It frightens me to have this compromised or abolished altogether.

Here are three stories from Google News:

Trump to sign executive orders enabling construction of proposed border wall and targeting sanctuary cities
Washington Post  – ‎28 minutes ago‎
President Trump is planning to sign executive orders on Wednesday enabling construction of his proposed border wall, and targeting cities where local leaders refuse to hand over illegal immigrants for deportation, part of a multi-day rollout of his …

Trump expected to announce executive orders on visa and refugee restrictionsCNN

I listened to this one:  He is planning to make it very difficult for refugees to enter the US and is planning to ban visas from 7 Muslim countries.

Trump clamps down on federal agencies
The Hill  – ‎2 hours ago‎
The Trump administration is clamping down on public communications by agencies as it seeks to assert control over the federal bureaucracy.

I listened to this one, too.  Essentially, federal agencies are banned or limited from public comment, social media or disclosure of any sort.

The time for citizens to join together in support of each other and resistance to such unconscionable tyranny by an administration has arrived:  It’s now; not some day.

Are you ready?

RED ALERT

The matters of Russia interfering with the US Presidential election, Trump’s lack of cooperation with the intelligence community and Congress, his appointment of someone who is friends with Russia and his insistence that he doesn’t need security briefings have me gravely concerned.

I wrote more on Patriot’s Voice.  Go to:

I do encourage you to speak up:  Contact your senator in support of an investigation.

Personally, I would like to see Trump’s inauguration postponed until this is cleared up.  What would you like?

Now, More Than Ever

I wrote this as I thought about the incredibly negative news that tends to invade our homes each day.

My hope and belief is, what gets presented is not how the majority of us think, feel or act.  It is important to realize this and keep the power of choice that we each have.

Now, more than ever,
The choices you make count:
Hold to high standards;
Raise the bar;
Don’t follow;
Instead, step up and lead out.

Now, more than ever,
Mercy and love we need;
Open your heart wide;
Give in love;
Don’t withhold;
Instead, give generously.

Now, more than ever,
We need to hear your voice,
As you speak the truth;
Say what’s right;
Without fear;
Let’s make the uplifting choice.

Come for a Visit

I started a new blog after the US election.
It’s at
http://patriotsvoiceblog.wordpress.com

I called it that because of a statement by Barack Obama, “WE are all patriots.”  The definition of this word is interesting:  “a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.”

It does not mean one who follows the party line and supports it, even when it’s wrong.

The idea of Patriotsvoiceblog is to offer my readers a chance to comment on political matters.  I also hope to encourage and facilitate some reclamation of our power as citizens.
Here are titles of posts over there:

I Don’t Know

I have asked a few people in the past week, “Who would you like for president in 2021?”
Pretty much unanimously, they have said, “I don’t know.”
What happens in your country?

In the United States, candidates run for President every four years.  This time, the campaigns started relatively early in 2015.
Grassroots

Bernie Sanders says, “The Democrats need to become a grassroots party.”

I find myself wondering if this is possible.  Nations are run by the wealthy elite; the common citizen has limited information and power.

“Hillary Clinton has widened her lead in the popular vote to 1.5 percentage points, a spread not seen for a losing candidate since the disputed election of 1876.” (New York Times)
Trump won the electoral vote; Hillary won the popular vote.
Setting the Tone

November 26, 2016, posted in articles, discussions, In the news
When Barack Obama was first elected in 2008, the mood of the nation was hopeful, cooperative and quite inclusive.

This time, however, anger, violence, racism, prejudice and aggression are in the forefront.
Take Back the Power…

…Raise the Standard

The notion that our government is “Of the people, for the people.”  is basically obselete.
Admittedly, some of what I write is controversial; I hope so!  That’s a good thing:  That we come at things differently is part of the beauty and struggle of government.
