What sort of people will we be?
What will we choose to believe?
Will we be open and unafraid;
Or angry, frightened,
Stuck in our own ways?
Will we choose generosity
And noble pursuits;
Will we be tight-fisted,
Will our power and wealth
Be invested for good
Or squandered and hoarded
Until all who would
Prosper alongside us
Are sickened and dead?
Let’s be people of principle instead.
The heart of the matter is,
We have a choice:
We can silence the cries of need
Or join with our own voice.
What will you hold on to?
What will be your way?
I invite you to choose rightly;
Let’s join together today.
As long as there is life,
There will always be something new:
Blossoms in Spring;
Fruit in July;
Thoughts and ideas;
A newborn baby’s cry.
As long as we search,
We’ll always find something true:
Words from a friend;
Hope when we pray;
Peace at evening’s end;
The dawn of a new day.
It seems that there are so many fresh thoughts and ideas coming into my head;
So much new information: News items, results of studies and research…
Yet the things that are solid enough to put on paper – or computer – seem old and stale.
The new things are like trying to catch clouds
Or hold the current of a river still long enough to be examined and described.
Does it always have to be that the newborns of life are soft and pliable?
But then, that is part of their loveliness.
Hopes, dreams, possibilities:
All like children yet to be conceived!
O that I will be able to hold some long enough to write about them!
If you read through my blogs, it might become evident that I have a passion for building community. Strong towns and neighborhoods are crucial for our well being, especially now, when prejudice, threat of deportation and the possibility of having vital services cut loom so darkly. That has inspired the following:
Coming together as citizens;
Overcoming differences and fear;
Making friends out of strangers
Moves us to be more clear:
Unity builds strength and safety;
No one can bully us then.
It truly is impossible
To turn against the one
You have come to know and love as a friend.
