Writer’s Block

It seems  that there are so many fresh thoughts and ideas coming into my head;
So much new information:  News items, results of studies and research…
Yet the things that are solid enough to put on paper – or computer – seem old and stale.

The new things are like trying to catch clouds
Or hold the current of a river still long enough to be examined and described.
Does it always have to be that the newborns of life are soft and pliable?
But then, that is part of their loveliness.

Hopes, dreams, possibilities:
All like children yet to be conceived!
O that I will be able to hold some long enough to write about them!

Community

o-talking-to-kids-about-race-facebookIf you read through my blogs, it might become evident that I have a passion for building community.  Strong towns and neighborhoods are crucial for our well being, especially now, when prejudice, threat of deportation and the possibility of having vital services cut loom so darkly.  That has inspired the following:

Coming together as citizens;
Overcoming differences and fear;
Making friends out of strangers
Moves us to be more clear:
Unity builds strength and safety;
No one can bully us then.
It truly is impossible
To turn against the one
You have come to know and love as a friend.

Truth

Let the truth be known;
Hold it in high esteem.
“Alternative facts” don’t make it;
They’re nothing more than schemes.

Let Truth rule your heart;
Honor and keep it near.
Even when Truth seems difficult;
Declare it loud and clear.

Great is this treasure,
A valued gift and right.
Let us join in preserving it;
Let us walk in its light.

Blessings of Every Size

untitled

A frosty veil falling;
Crystalline blanket white;
Appearing in secret,
While all sleep through the night;
Then, upon rising,
We see in the morning light
The marvelous work of nature,
So dazzling and bright.

How many things happen
Before we ever know?
They’re neither seen nor touched;
Some never seem to show;
Then, upon learning,
We see in Discovery’s glow
Yet another mystery revealed
That inspires us so.

Quandary and unknowing
Are presents in disguise,
Designed to urge us on;
Meant to make us more wise.
Then, upon growing,
We see with discerning eyes
Beautiful and confounding things;
Blessings of every size.
